Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla recently highlighted how promoting tourism in the state’s villages can significantly boost the rural economy and showcase its vibrant cultural heritage.
Tapping into Village Charm
During a visit to the serene Khajjiar (Pukhri) village, Governor Shukla personally experienced its natural allure. He noted that the village’s pristine beauty and clean environment make it particularly attractive, even rivalling some of Himachal’s more renowned tourist destinations.
The Governor also commended the Chamba district administration and the tourism department for their dedicated efforts in developing and promoting rural tourism within the district. Their work is crucial in bringing lesser-known gems into the spotlight.
Embracing Responsible Tourism
Governor Shukla stressed that responsible tourism is vital, with a strong focus on cleanliness and environmental preservation. This approach ensures that the natural beauty remains intact for generations to come.
He pointed out the availability of well-maintained homestay facilities in villages like Pukhri, offering tourists an authentic experience. The fresh and pure atmosphere in these rural settings is also highly beneficial for health and well-being, making them ideal retreats.
Improving Connectivity for Growth
A key area for improvement, according to the Governor, is connectivity to these remote villages. Better roads and infrastructure would make it easier for more tourists to visit and enjoy the natural splendor, directly contributing to the local economy.
He assured that he would raise the issue of improving regional connectivity with both the Central Government and the Union Ministry of Forests. This advocacy is crucial for overcoming logistical challenges and unlocking the full potential of rural tourism.
Furthermore, an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ICRT India Foundation and the Chamba district administration during the International Minjar Fair 2025. This agreement is set to significantly aid in promoting tourism across several of Himachal’s beautiful, yet lesser-known, destinations.
