Good news for wildlife enthusiasts: a tiger safari in the core area of Rajasthan’s Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve is expected to kick off as early as October.

Tiger Safari Nears Reality

The highly anticipated tiger safari at Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve is set to begin this October. Forest authorities have submitted the Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for its final nod.

Preparations are almost complete, and officials indicate the NTCA has not requested any changes to the plan. Final clearance is expected soon, paving the way for controlled safaris in the reserve’s core zone.

What the Conservation Plan Covers

The Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) is a comprehensive document designed to ensure the well-being of the reserve’s wildlife. It includes scientific wildlife management practices and improved monitoring systems.

The plan also addresses crucial aspects like water resource management, conflict resolution between humans and wildlife, and tracking the tiger population. These measures aim to protect the tigers while allowing for sustainable eco-tourism.

Boosting Local Eco-Tourism

With the implementation of the TCP, about 20% of the reserve will become accessible for eco-tourism. This opens up exciting opportunities for visitors to experience the natural beauty and wildlife of Ramgarh Vishdhari.

More importantly, this development is expected to create new employment prospects for local residents. It’s a win-win, benefiting both conservation efforts and the community.

Ramgarh Vishdhari: A Brief History

Ramgarh Vishdhari received formal approval in May 2022, becoming Rajasthan’s fourth and India’s 52nd tiger reserve. The TCP was specifically developed to regulate tourism and other activities within its boundaries.

The reserve spans an impressive 1,501.89 square kilometers. This includes a core area of 481.90 square kilometers and a buffer zone of 1,019.98 square kilometers.

Currently, six tigers call Ramgarh Vishdhari home: two adult males, one adult female, one young male, and two cubs. Efforts are continuously made to support and grow this population.

Safari Routes and Future Plans

Officials have already proposed potential safari routes. One key path will extend from the Peepkhoda entry gate in Naitpur directly into the core area. More routes are planned once the TCP receives full approval.

Looking ahead, there are plans to establish four distinct zones within the reserve. The carrying capacity for each zone will be determined to ensure sustainable tourism. There are also proposals to relocate eight villages from inside the reserve post-approval.

  • Tiger safaris at Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve are likely to start in October.
  • The Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) has been submitted for final approval and no amendments have been requested.
  • Approximately 20% of the reserve will be open for eco-tourism, creating local jobs.
  • Ramgarh Vishdhari became India’s 52nd tiger reserve in May 2022.
  • The reserve currently hosts six tigers.

This initiative promises to be a significant boost for wildlife conservation and tourism in Rajasthan, inviting more people to witness the majestic tigers in their natural habitat.
