Kia is reportedly developing a new electric Carens variant specifically tailored for fleet operations and the taxi market in India.

Driving into the Fleet Market

The Korean automaker recently introduced the Carens Clavis EV, and now details are emerging about a fleet-focused version. This new trim, likely named ‘HTM’, will build upon the existing HTK+ 42kWh variant.

To cater to commercial use, Kia plans to include essential features as standard. These will encompass a speed governor, which electronically limits the vehicle’s top speed to 80 kmph, and a built-in GPS tracker for enhanced monitoring and logistics.

Features Tailored for Commercial Use

Externally, the Carens Clavis EV HTM will sport modern touches like LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs). It will also come equipped with stylish 16-inch Aero alloy wheels, giving it a distinct and professional appearance.

Inside, drivers and passengers can expect a practical yet comfortable dual-tone interior. The second row of seats will offer both slide and recline functions, enhancing passenger comfort during journeys.

Tech features include a distinctive double D-cut steering wheel, convenient shift-by-wire gear selection, and a dual 12.25-inch digital instrument cluster for easy access to information. For added convenience and safety, the vehicle will also feature cruise control, speed limit assist, Kia’s intuitive i-pedal technology, and front parking sensors.

Performance and Expected Pricing

Under the hood, the Carens Clavis EV HTM will retain the proven mechanicals from the HTK+ 42kWh variant. This means it will be powered by a 99kW electric motor, tuned to deliver a robust 255Nm of torque for smooth and efficient acceleration.

The vehicle’s energy will come from a 42kWh NMC battery, providing a reliable range for demanding fleet operations. Fast charging capabilities will also be present, allowing the battery to top up from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 39 minutes.

Sources suggest that this fleet-specific HTM trim might come with a slight premium over the standard model. It is estimated to be about Rs. 30,000 more expensive than the HTK+ variant, which currently has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 17.99 lakh.
