Australia has stormed to the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings after a dominant 3-0 whitewash against West Indies, while England climbed to second place following their crucial victory over India at Lord’s.

Australia’s Commanding Start

The Australian team, led by Pat Cummins, has made an impeccable start to the new WTC cycle. They secured a clean sweep against the West Indies, culminating in a resounding 176-run victory in the third Test at Sabina Park, Kingston.

During that final match, Australia’s bowlers dismissed West Indies for a mere 27 runs, marking the second-lowest total ever in Test cricket history. This comprehensive performance has given Australia a perfect 100 percent points percentage (PCT) with 36 points from three matches.

England Climbs to Second Spot

Ben Stokes’ England side has also started strong, securing second place in the standings. They achieved this by defeating India by 22 runs in the third Test at Lord’s, taking a vital 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

This win earned England 12 crucial points, bringing their total to 24 points and a solid 66.67 PCT from three matches played.

The Rest of the Field

Sri Lanka currently sits in third place, also with a 66.67 PCT, after winning their two-match Test series 1-0 against Bangladesh at home. They gained 16 points from one win and one draw.

India, captained by Shubman Gill, slipped to fourth position after their second loss in three Tests. Their PCT has dropped to 33.33 percent, with 12 points. Bangladesh is in fifth place with four points and a 16.67 PCT.

The West Indies, despite showing glimpses of promise in their series against Australia, failed to secure any points and currently sit at the bottom with 0 PCT. Other major Test-playing nations like New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa are yet to commence their campaigns in this WTC cycle.

Understanding the WTC Points System

The World Test Championship ranking is determined by the percentage of points won, not just the raw points total. This system ensures fairness across teams that may play a different number of matches.

Teams earn 12 points for a win, 6 points for a tie, and 4 points for a draw. Additionally, points can be deducted for slow over rates, adding another strategic layer to Test cricket.

  • Australia leads with a perfect 100 PCT after a 3-0 sweep against West Indies.
  • England is second with 66.67 PCT after beating India at Lord’s.
  • India currently sits fourth, while West Indies is yet to open its account.

As the 2025-27 cycle unfolds, more teams will join the fray, making the race for the top two spots and a place in the 2027 final an exciting prospect for cricket fans worldwide.
