Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has once again showcased his extraordinary talent, smashing a rapid 52-ball century for India U19 against England U19, asserting his dominance on the youth cricket stage.
Another Century for the Prodigy
In the fourth Youth ODI, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a blistering performance that saw him reach triple figures in just 52 deliveries. His explosive innings was decorated with 7 towering sixes and 10 boundaries, leaving the England U19 bowlers stunned.
This latest feat further cements his reputation as one of cricket’s most exciting young talents, consistently making headlines with his aggressive batting style.
A Meteoric Rise to Fame
Suryavanshi first grabbed national attention in October 2024 when he etched his name in history as the youngest player to score an international century. This milestone came during India Under-19’s Youth Test against Australia in Chennai, where he scored an impressive 104 off just 62 balls.
His prodigious talent quickly caught the eye of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. Just a month later, in November 2024, he became the youngest player ever signed in IPL history.
A fierce bidding war erupted between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, with the Royals ultimately securing the young star for a significant sum of Rs 1.1 crore.
IPL Stardom and Record-Breaking Sixes
Vaibhav’s fame skyrocketed during the recent IPL season, where he delivered one of the tournament’s most memorable moments. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he blasted a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, marking the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall.
His ability to dispatch the ball to all parts of the ground has become his trademark, thrilling fans and pundits alike.
Dominating the Youth ODI Scene
Suryavanshi’s impactful performances aren’t limited to the IPL. In the third Youth ODI against England U19, he played a crucial role in India’s four-wicket win. Despite the rain-affected contest being trimmed to 40 overs, Vaibhav’s 86 runs off just 31 deliveries set the tone for India’s chase of 269.
He reached his fifty in a mere 20 balls, peppering the boundary with nine sixes and six fours. This phenomenal start allowed India to chase down the challenging target in only 34.3 overs.
His 20-ball half-century is the second-fastest by an Indian in Youth ODIs, only surpassed by Rishabh Pant’s 18-ball fifty in 2016. Furthermore, his nine sixes in that innings broke the Indian record for most maximums in a Youth ODI, previously held jointly by Raj Angad Bawa and Mandeep Singh.
A remarkable 78 of his 86 runs came from boundaries, accounting for 90.69% of his total score. Only a handful of Indian batters, including Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, and Manan Vohra, have recorded a higher percentage of runs in boundaries in a Youth ODI innings.
