Triumph is set to expand its 400cc lineup with the imminent launch of a new cafe racer model, expected in early August.

Get Ready for a New Triumph

Motorcycle enthusiasts have something new to look forward to! Triumph, in collaboration with Bajaj, is gearing up to launch a new 400cc cafe racer. This exciting new model, based on the popular Speed 400, has been spotted testing multiple times, building anticipation.

The launch is expected in the first week of August. Indications come from a ride invite sent by Bajaj, strongly suggesting this is when the latest 400cc Triumph will make its official debut.

Power and Performance

Underneath its stylish cafe racer exterior, this new Triumph will share its mechanical heart with the Speed 400. This means riders can expect the same impressive 398cc engine.

This liquid-cooled engine is known for producing a healthy 40hp and 37.5Nm of torque. The chassis components are also likely to be carried over from the Speed 400, ensuring a familiar and engaging riding experience.

Classic Cafe Racer Styling

While the mechanicals might be similar, Triumph and Bajaj are clearly differentiating this bike through its design. True to cafe racer form, the new model will feature a distinctive half-fairing, giving it that iconic, aggressive stance.

Expect sporty clip-on handlebars and more rear-set footpegs, designed to offer a committed riding position. New color options will also be introduced, with a striking red and silver scheme already spotted on an uncamouflaged test mule.

What Will It Be Called?

One of the biggest questions surrounding this new 400cc Triumph is its official name. Two strong possibilities are currently circulating.

Triumph might align it with its larger 1200cc models, potentially naming it the Speed 400 RS. Alternatively, there’s a chance the revered “Thruxton” name could be resurrected for the 400cc segment, a nod to Triumph’s classic cafe racer heritage.

Expected Pricing and Market Position

When it comes to price, the new 400cc Triumph cafe racer is expected to slot in between the existing Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X models. The Speed 400 is currently priced at Rs 2.46 lakh, while the Scrambler 400 X retails for Rs 2.67 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

This strategic pricing will position the cafe racer as a unique offering in the market. It will largely stand in a class of its own, as the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, while also a cafe racer, is a significantly heavier, more powerful twin-cylinder machine positioned in a higher segment.

  • The new Triumph 400cc cafe racer is set for an early August launch.
  • It will share its 40hp, 398cc engine and chassis with the Speed 400.
  • Key styling elements include a half-fairing, clip-on bars, and rear-set footpegs.
  • Potential names are Speed 400 RS or Thruxton 400.
  • Pricing is expected to be between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X.

This upcoming model promises to bring a fresh, classic yet sporty option to the growing 400cc segment, appealing to riders looking for distinctive style and accessible performance.
