The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line has received a significant price cut of Rs. 3 lakh, just three months after its launch, suggesting the premium SUV might be struggling with sales.
A Swift Price Drop
Introduced in April 2025 with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 49 lakh, the Tiguan R-Line is now effectively available for Rs. 46 lakh. This new pricing includes various benefits like cash discounts, exchange bonuses, and corporate offers.
This quick adjustment signals Volkswagen’s move to boost the SUV’s appeal in a competitive market.
Under the Hood: Power and Features
The Tiguan R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine, which it shares with the popular Golf GTI. This engine churns out 201bhp and 320Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4Motion All-Wheel Drive system.
Performance-wise, the SUV can sprint from zero to 100kmph in just over seven seconds. It is offered in a single, fully-loaded top-spec variant.
Inside, the Tiguan R-Line is packed with premium features. Highlights include a large 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.3-inch digital cockpit, advanced matrix LED headlamps, and ambient lighting. For safety, it boasts a Level 2 ADAS suite with 21 assist functions and nine airbags. Comfort features like a panoramic sunroof and ventilated massage seats further enhance its luxury quotient.
Facing Stiff Competition
Despite its impressive features and performance, reports indicate slow sales for the Tiguan R-Line. A key challenge is its positioning in a segment largely dominated by diesel-powered SUVs and those offering seven-seater configurations, which the five-seater petrol-only Tiguan does not.
Another factor contributing to its initial high price was its import status as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), making it more expensive than many locally assembled rivals.
The Golf GTI Success Story
Interestingly, the Tiguan R-Line’s hot hatch sibling, the Golf GTI, has seen a different fate. Despite being priced higher at Rs. 53 lakh (ex-showroom), the first batch of the Golf GTI was completely sold out, showcasing a strong demand for performance-oriented Volkswagen vehicles.
Is it a Better Deal Now?
With the new Rs. 3 lakh discount, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line now presents a more compelling value proposition in the premium SUV segment. For buyers who prioritize refinement, advanced safety features, and strong AWD performance in a five-seater package, the Tiguan R-Line could be a more attractive option than before.
- Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line receives a Rs. 3 lakh discount, now effectively Rs. 46 lakh.
- The SUV was launched just three months ago in April 2025.
- Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine, shared with the Golf GTI.
- Equipped with premium features, Level 2 ADAS, and nine airbags.
- Sales have reportedly been slow, facing competition from diesel and 7-seater rivals.
- Its CBU import status contributed to its initial high pricing.
Whether this new pricing strategy will successfully revive demand for the Tiguan R-Line remains to be seen, but it certainly makes a stronger case for potential buyers.
