Policy Shifts and Safety Milestones
Delhi’s ‘End-of-Life’ Vehicle Ban Put on Hold
The Delhi government recently announced a ban on fuel sales to “end-of-life” vehicles (petrol vehicles over 15 years and diesel vehicles over 10 years). However, this decision has been temporarily put on hold due to public outcry and logistical issues.
The primary challenge stems from the operational efficiency of automated number plate reader (ANPR) cameras at fuel stations. The ban might be reinstated in a few months once these systems are fully implemented across Delhi-NCR, ensuring better enforcement.
Toyota Innova Hycross Achieves 5-Star Safety
The Toyota Innova Hycross has set a new benchmark by becoming the first Toyota vehicle, first MPV, and first hybrid to earn a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests. This impressive rating applies to the MPV’s entire variant lineup.
The Innova Hycross scored an excellent 30.47 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection, highlighting its robust safety credentials.
Two-Wheeler Toll Reports Dispelled
Recent reports circulating about potential toll charges for two-wheelers from July 15 have been officially debunked. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI have clarified that there are no such plans currently in progress.
- Electric vehicle launches continue to dominate, offering more choices in both cars and scooters.
- Vehicle safety remains a top priority, with the Innova Hycross setting a new standard for MPVs in crash tests.
- Government policies are subject to public feedback and operational challenges, as seen with Delhi’s vehicle ban.
The automotive sector is clearly in a dynamic phase, with exciting innovations and important policy discussions shaping its future.
