Tesla has officially opened its order books for the highly anticipated Model Y electric SUV across India, making it accessible to a wider range of customers.
Tesla’s Pan-India Push Begins
Tesla has now announced that its Model Y crossover is available for booking nationwide via its official website. This marks a significant expansion for the electric vehicle giant in the Indian market.
While bookings are open everywhere, priority deliveries in the initial phase will be given to customers in key metropolitan areas. These include Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with other regions slated to receive their deliveries later.
Decoding the Tesla Model Y for India
The Model Y, making its Indian debut, comes in two distinct variants: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD). The RWD variant promises an impressive WLTP-claimed range of 500 kilometers on a single charge.
For those seeking even greater range, the LR RWD version extends this to a substantial 622 kilometers. Both variants share an electronically limited top speed of 201 kmph, ensuring consistent performance.
The Model Y boasts 19-inch Crossflow alloys, giving it a sleek appearance, and is available in six attractive color options. When it comes to acceleration, the RWD variant goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, while the LR RWD shaves that down to a quicker 5.6 seconds.
It’s also worth noting that Tesla offers its Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability as an optional upgrade, though it comes with an additional premium of Rs. 6 lakh.
How to Book Your Tesla Model Y
Aspiring Tesla owners can reserve their Model Y directly through the company’s official Indian website. The booking process involves two non-refundable installment payments.
The first payment of Rs. 22,220 is required immediately to secure the reservation. A second installment of Rs. 3 lakh must then be paid within seven days of the initial booking. Both these amounts are inclusive of Tax Collected at Source (TCS).
It’s crucial for buyers to remember that these reservation amounts are non-refundable, so ensure you’re committed before proceeding.
