Young Indian prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to make headlines, smashing the fastest Youth ODI hundred and earning high praise from former India coach Ravi Shastri.
Another Record Bites the Dust
Vaibhav Suryavanshi put on another dazzling display in the Youth ODI series against England U-19, helping India clinch the series with a stunning century. He hammered the fastest Youth ODI hundred ever, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls.
This phenomenal knock saw him score 143 runs off only 78 deliveries, featuring an incredible 10 sixes and 13 fours. Suryavanshi broke the previous world record held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam and surpassed his own Indian record for most sixes in a Youth ODI innings.
A Meteoric Rise
Suryavanshi’s talent has been evident for some time. He first made global news by debuting in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar at just 12 years old, making him the youngest player in the tournament’s history.
His impressive run continued in the Youth Test series against Australia last year. At 13 years and 188 days, he became the youngest centurion in international competitive cricket, scoring 104 runs off 62 balls and setting the record for the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level in 58 balls.
Ravi Shastri’s Endorsement
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has been closely observing Suryavanshi’s progress. Speaking about the young batsman, Shastri believes Vaibhav is on the fast track to the senior national team, provided he focuses on one crucial area.
Shastri emphasized the importance of First-Class cricket for the youngster’s development. He stated that performing well in the longer format will be key to knocking on the doors of the national side within the next couple of years.
“He will play First-Class cricket, but that’s what the IPL does. It gives you that platform,” Shastri commented, highlighting the visibility and exposure such performances bring. “It will fast-track him if he goes and plays First-Class cricket, goes and gets a couple of hundreds in his first couple of seasons.”
The Path Ahead
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already carved out a significant reputation in age-group cricket. In only seven Youth ODIs, he has smashed an astonishing 32 sixes, a feat bettered only by Unmukt Chand in all recorded Under-19 cricket.
With his exceptional talent and the guidance from experienced figures like Ravi Shastri, the future looks incredibly bright for this young cricketing sensation.
