Two major Bollywood films, Ajay Devgn’s action-packed sequel “Son of Sardaar 2” and Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s romantic drama “Dhadak 2,” have hit theaters, but both are facing an uphill battle at the box office.
A Dual Release for Bollywood Fans
Friday brought a double dose of Bollywood to the big screen. Moviegoers now have the option of catching Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated return as Jassi in “Son of Sardaar 2,” a sequel to his popular 2012 hit.
Alongside it is “Dhadak 2,” a romantic drama featuring the fresh pairing of Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi. This film is considered a spiritual successor to the 2018 movie “Dhadak,” which marked Janhvi Kapoor’s debut.
Inside Son of Sardaar 2
“Son of Sardaar 2” promises to deliver a blend of action, humor, and that signature Punjabi charm. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film boasts a large ensemble cast.
Notable names include Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, and Deepak Dobriyal. The movie also features appearances by the late actor Mukul Dev, adding an emotional touch.
Dhadak 2: A Fresh Romance
“Dhadak 2” steps into the romantic genre, aiming to captivate audiences with its lead pair. Shazia Iqbal has taken on the dual role of writer and director for this film.
The movie is a collaborative effort produced by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures. While it follows the spirit of the original “Dhadak,” the 2018 film was itself a remake of the acclaimed Tamil movie “Pariyerum Perumal.”
The Box Office Challenge
Both new releases are facing stiff competition from films already dominating the box office. Aneet Padda and Ahaan Pandey’s “Saiyaara” continues its strong run, proving to be a formidable contender.
Adding to the challenge is “Mahavatar Narsimha,” another holdover release. Early reports suggest that “Son of Sardaar 2” in particular is struggling to gain traction, with the film yet to cross the Rs 1 crore mark at the box office.
Despite Ajay Devgn having strategically pushed the release of “Son of Sardaar 2” by a week, both films are encountering a tougher-than-expected opening due to the sustained popularity of their competitors.
- “Son of Sardaar 2” stars Ajay Devgn and is a sequel to his 2012 hit.
- “Dhadak 2” features Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in a romantic drama.
- Both films face strong competition from “Saiyaara” and “Mahavatar Narsimha.”
- “Son of Sardaar 2” is reportedly struggling to earn Rs 1 crore in its initial box office run.
The coming days will show if these new Bollywood offerings can overcome the existing box office wave and carve out their own success.
