Mohit Suri’s romantic drama, `Saiyaara`, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is set to cross the massive Rs 300 crore mark at the domestic box office today, continuing its impressive run despite new competition.

Nearing the Coveted Rs 300 Crore Mark

On Sunday, its seventeenth day in cinemas, `Saiyaara` added another Rs 8 crore to its collection. While this was a dip from its second Sunday earnings, it showed a strong rebound from its Saturday and Friday figures.

According to Sacnilk, the film’s current domestic total stands at an impressive Rs 299.75 crore. This puts `Saiyaara` in prime position to officially enter the prestigious Rs 300 crore club by the end of today.

Breaking Records and Setting New Milestones

Achieving this milestone means `Saiyaara` is poised to surpass the lifetime domestic earnings of other major blockbusters. It could soon overtake Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma’s 2016 sports drama `Sultan` (Rs 300.45 crore).

Furthermore, it might also eclipse Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 period fantasy `Padmaavat`, which starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor, and grossed Rs 302.15 crore domestically.

This remarkable performance also makes `Saiyaara` the highest-grossing Indian film to date featuring newcomers in lead roles. The film also marks the debut of YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani as a producer, adding another feather to Yash Raj Films’ cap.

Saiyaara’s Place Among Top Earners

Currently, `Saiyaara` ranks as the 12th highest-earning Hindi film domestically. While its climb has been meteoric, there are still several colossal hits ahead of it on the all-time list.

These include films like `Bajrangi Bhaijaan`, `Tiger Zinda Hai`, `PK`, `Sanju`, and `Dangal`. Even more recent blockbusters such as `Gadar 2`, `Pathaan`, `Animal`, `Stree 2`, `Chhaava`, and `Jawan` remain firmly at the top.

Interestingly, two of these top-tier films, `Tiger Zinda Hai` and `Pathaan`, are also backed by Yash Raj Films, highlighting the studio’s consistent success at the box office.

The Competition: Dhadak 2’s Performance

Meanwhile, another romantic drama, `Dhadak 2`, from Dharma Productions, entered the box office race this past weekend. Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, the film also saw an improvement in its Sunday collection.

On Sunday, `Dhadak 2` earned Rs 4.25 crore, up from its Friday and Saturday earnings. However, its opening weekend total of Rs 11.50 crore pales in comparison to `Saiyaara`’s massive Rs 80 crore opening weekend.

`Dhadak 2` is a spiritual sequel to the 2018 hit `Dhadak`, which featured Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor and had a much stronger opening. This indicates `Saiyaara` continues to dominate the box office, showcasing its immense appeal.

  • `Saiyaara` is expected to surpass Rs 300 crore domestically today.
  • It is poised to break the lifetime collection records of `Sultan` and `Padmaavat`.
  • The film is now the highest-grossing Indian film featuring newcomers.
  • It holds the 12th spot among the highest-earning Hindi films in India.

As `Saiyaara` continues its strong run, all eyes are on how much further it can climb the box office charts and what new benchmarks it will set.
