The highly anticipated film “Coolie,” starring Rajinikanth, is facing backlash as fans accuse its newly released posters of blatant plagiarism, drawing comparisons to several Hollywood and Indian movie visuals.

Poster Plagiarism Allegations Emerge

New promotional posters for Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, “Coolie,” have ignited a heated debate online. Social media users are pointing out striking resemblances between these visuals and posters from various other movies, both Hollywood blockbusters and Indian productions.

One “Coolie” poster, featuring characters peering through fabric, has been likened to Vijay’s 2022 film “Beast.” Another visual, showcasing fragmented glass pieces with different characters, mirrors the design seen in James McAvoy’s “Glass.” Additionally, a poster depicting Rajinikanth wrapped in a long red cloth has drawn comparisons to the aesthetic of “Rebel Moon” and “Madame Web.”

Fans Express Disappointment on Social Media

The similarities haven’t gone unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans, who quickly took to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disapproval. Many users shared side-by-side collages, highlighting the alleged copying.

One commenter remarked that “3 out of the 4 posters recently released by the Coolie team are copied from somewhere else,” expressing disbelief that even a fan-made poster of “Beast” might have been imitated. Other reactions included criticisms of “zero originality” and labeling the creators as “typical copycat.”

A History of Controversy for ‘Coolie’

This isn’t the first time “Coolie” has landed in hot water regarding intellectual property. Last May, acclaimed music composer Ilaiyaraaja sent a copyright notice to the film’s makers.

He accused them of using his iconic tune “Disco Disco” from the film “Thanga Magan” without proper authorization. Ilaiyaraaja demanded either official approval for the usage or the complete removal of his music from the film.

Behind the Scenes and What’s Next

Despite the ongoing controversies, the “Coolie” team recently held its audio launch. During the event, Rajinikanth light-heartedly spoke about his age and flexibility, joking with choreographer Sandy about going easy on his dance steps.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, “Coolie” stars Rajinikanth as Deva, alongside a strong ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, and a much-anticipated cameo by Bollywood star Aamir Khan is also expected.

  • “Coolie” posters are under fire for alleged similarities to “Beast,” “Glass,” “Rebel Moon,” and “Madame Web.”
  • Social media users have strongly criticized the designs, labeling them as “copycat.”
  • The film previously faced a copyright notice from composer Ilaiyaraaja over unauthorized music use.

As “Coolie” progresses towards its release, all eyes will be on how these controversies impact its reception and whether the makers address the growing concerns.
