Get ready for a historic moment in Indian athletics as the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, the country’s first-ever international javelin competition, is set to take place in Bengaluru this Saturday.
A Dream Come True: The NC Classic
The Neeraj Chopra Classic is more than just a competition; it’s a dream realized by Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra himself. This prestigious event, bearing his name, joins the ranks of other renowned javelin classics worldwide.
Co-organized by JSW Sports and Neeraj Chopra, and sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India, the NC Classic has already achieved World Athletics Gold level status. This high-level recognition ensures top-tier competition.
Venue and Schedule Details
The highly anticipated event will unfold at Bengaluru’s iconic Sree Kanteerava Stadium. While originally planned for Panchkula in Haryana, the venue was shifted to Bengaluru, home to ISL club Bengaluru FC, also owned by JSW Sports.
Fans can mark their calendars: the javelin-only competition is scheduled to kick off at 7 PM IST on Saturday, promising an evening of thrilling throws.

Star-Studded International Lineup
The NC Classic boasts an impressive roster of international javelin talent. Leading the charge is Germany’s Thomas Rohler, the 2016 Olympic champion with a formidable personal best of 93.90m.
Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva, a South American record holder with 86.62m, is expected to be a strong contender against Chopra. Also look out for Kenya’s Julius Yego, the 2015 World champion, and USA’s top-ranked thrower, Curtis Thompson.
Other international stars include Czech Republic’s Martin Konecny, Sri Lanka’s rising star Rumesh Pathirage, and Poland’s European U23 champion Cyprian Mrzygłod. Unfortunately, Anderson Peters, Julian Weber, and Arshad Nadeem will not be participating.
India’s Javelin Hopes
Of course, the star attraction on home soil is Neeraj Chopra himself, making a rare competitive appearance in India. But he’s not alone; India’s rising javelin stars are also ready to shine.
Sachin Yadav, who recently won silver at the Asian Championships, will be a key Indian challenger with a personal best of 85.16m. Rohit Yadav, returning after surgery, and Sahil Silwal, an 80m category talent, will also be vying for top spots.
Rounding out the Indian contingent is Yashvir Singh, who previously broke Neeraj Chopra’s U-20 Fed Cup record. His personal best of 82.57m makes him another exciting athlete to watch.
