Maserati has unleashed the new MCPura supercar, a stunning derivative of its MC20, showcasing a blend of aggressive design and enhanced aerodynamics at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Maserati’s Latest Supercar Unveiled
The Italian luxury brand, Maserati, recently pulled back the curtain on its newest creation: the MCPura. This supercar is a fresh take on the acclaimed MC20, with significant updates to its exterior and interior design, materials, and finishes.
Underneath, the MCPura retains the heart of its predecessor. It’s powered by the formidable 630hp V6 Nettuno engine and built upon a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque. The iconic butterfly doors also make a return, ensuring a dramatic entrance every time.
Just like the MC20, the MCPura will be available in both coupe and convertible versions. The convertible variant carries the name MCPura Cielo, which fittingly translates to “sky” in Italian.
Sharp New Looks and Aero Boosts
The MCPura boasts a more aggressive stance, particularly in its lower sections. The “shark nose” front has been accentuated, giving it an even more striking appearance. Both the front and rear bumpers draw inspiration from Maserati’s GT2 Stradale, adding to its race-bred aesthetic.
For those seeking an even more dynamic look, an oversized spoiler is available as an optional extra. Maserati highlights that these design changes aren’t just for show; the revamped lower section significantly improves the car’s aerodynamic performance.
Developing these aero improvements was a meticulous process. Maserati partnered with the renowned race car firm Dallara, investing over 2,000 man-hours in wind tunnel testing and conducting more than 1,000 computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to fine-tune its efficiency.
A Dazzling New Color
The MCPura introduces an exciting new palette of vibrant colors. At its Goodwood debut, the car was showcased in an exclusive shade called AI Aqua Rainbow. This unique blue finish changes color in the sun, creating a captivating rainbow-like effect, much like a prism refracting white light.
The AI Aqua Rainbow finish is presented in matte for the coupe and glossy for the MCPura Cielo convertible. Complementing this stunning paintwork, the brand’s Trident logo and various insignias feature a striking magenta color with blue mica accents. Interestingly, these details are glossy on the coupe but matte on the convertible, offering a subtle contrast.
Inside the Cabin: A Touch of Art
Step inside the MCPura, and you’ll find an interior designed to impress. The Alcantara seats are a standout feature, meticulously laser-etched to create a sophisticated 3D effect. This attention to detail elevates the cabin’s luxurious and sporty feel.
“Pura” Concept: More Than Just a Name
Beyond being just a model name, “Pura” represents a broader concept for Maserati. Giovanni Perosino, Maserati’s chief marketing officer, hinted that the “Pura” philosophy, which embodies purity in design and all aspects, could potentially extend to other models in the brand’s lineup in the future.
- The Maserati MCPura is a more aggressive, aerodynamically enhanced derivative of the MC20 supercar.
- It retains the powerful 630hp V6 Nettuno engine and carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
- A unique “AI Aqua Rainbow” paint finish offers a color-changing effect in sunlight.
- The interior features laser-etched Alcantara seats for a distinctive 3D appearance.
- Maserati may apply the “Pura” design concept to other models in its portfolio.
