Mahindra Racing, a founding team in Formula E, is set to continue as a manufacturer for the championship’s upcoming Gen4 era, reinforcing its commitment to the all-electric series.

Mahindra’s Big Decision for Formula E’s Future

Mahindra has been a cornerstone of Formula E since its inception in 2014. As the sport looks ahead to its new Gen4 rules, set to begin after the 2026 season, the Indian team faced a crucial decision about its future role.

Initially, there was speculation about whether Mahindra would remain a full manufacturer, designing its own powertrain components, or transition to a customer team, purchasing cars from another supplier. However, the team has now made its preference clear.

Speaking at the recent Jakarta E-Prix, Frederic Bertrand, CEO and Team Principal of Mahindra Racing, confirmed their strong desire to “love to stay as a manufacturer.” An official announcement is expected soon.

Why Staying a Manufacturer Makes Sense

Maintaining Performance and Independence

The decision to maintain manufacturer status comes after careful consideration. Bertrand highlighted that this path “makes sense in terms of keeping the level of performance, understanding and also creating track-to-road synergies within the [Mahindra] Group.”

The team’s growing collaboration with Mahindra Research Valley and Tech Mahindra plays a significant role. This partnership allows for valuable knowledge exchange, particularly in software development, which is crucial for electric racing.

Staying independent is also a key factor. Bertrand emphasized, “We like to be quite independent and manage our own destiny.” This autonomy allows Mahindra to control its performance development without relying on external suppliers.

A Season of Resurgence for Mahindra Racing

This commitment comes amidst a strong resurgence for Mahindra Racing on track. After two challenging seasons, the team has returned to consistent form this year, regularly scoring points.

They have already secured three podium finishes, positioning them well to achieve their goal of a top-six finish in the current standings. Looking ahead, Bertrand stated that for Season 12, the team’s ambition is to “fight for the top.”

While Season 11 concludes this weekend, Mahindra’s clear intention to be part of Gen4 is positive news. This commitment not only secures Indian representation in global motorsport but also strengthens Formula E, especially as other major teams consider their exits.

  • Mahindra Racing plans to continue as a manufacturer in Formula E’s Gen4 era.
  • Staying a manufacturer ensures higher performance, technical understanding, and synergies with the wider Mahindra Group.
  • The team has enjoyed a strong resurgence this season, securing three podium finishes and aiming for a top-six championship standing.
  • An official announcement regarding their Gen4 commitment is expected shortly.

With the current season wrapping up, the official confirmation of Mahindra’s continued manufacturer status is eagerly awaited, signaling a strong future for the Indian team in electric motorsport.
