Actress Kajol recently shared her feelings of “helplessness” during the intense 2012 box office clash between her husband Ajay Devgn’s film, Son of Sardaar, and Yash Raj Films’ Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Caught in the Middle: Kajol’s Perspective
In a candid interview with Lallantop, Kajol opened up about the challenging period. She described how difficult conflicts can be, especially when they linger unresolved for a while.
“Fights are always difficult, especially when they remain unresolved for some time,” Kajol stated. “At that point, when you have a situation like that in front of you, both parties were standing for themselves.”
Being connected to both sides, Kajol admitted she felt truly helpless during the dispute. She explained that one often has to wait for time to pass, allowing emotions to subside and things to eventually normalize.
The Infamous 2012 Box Office Showdown
The controversy dates back to 2012, when Ajay Devgn’s production company accused Yash Raj Films (YRF) of monopolistic practices. Devgn’s team filed a complaint with the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The complaint alleged that YRF used its dominant position to secure a larger share of cinema screens for their film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This, they claimed, unfairly limited the screen count available for Son of Sardaar, which was also releasing at the same time.
The clash created significant tension within the industry, involving two of Bollywood’s biggest production houses and star families.
Navigating Industry Dynamics
Kajol reflected on the nature of change itself, suggesting it is a constant force, neither inherently good nor bad. Her comments highlight the personal toll that major industry disputes can take on those connected to the parties involved.
Such incidents underscore the complex relationships and competitive pressures prevalent in the film business, where professional rivalries can sometimes spill over into personal discomfort for those bridging different camps.
