The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has unveiled India’s shooting squads for both the upcoming Asian Championships in Kazakhstan and the ISSF World Cup in China, featuring a mix of seasoned Olympians and rising stars.
Top Shooters Make a Comeback for Asian Championships
Exciting news for Indian shooting fans as former men’s air rifle world champion Rudrankksh Patil and Olympian Saurabh Chaudhary are set to return to action. Both shooters have been named in the 35-member squad geared up for the 16th Asian Championship.
This prestigious tournament is scheduled to take place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, running from August 16th to August 30th. Their inclusion is expected to significantly bolster India’s medal prospects.
Squads Announced for ISSF World Cup in China
Beyond the Asian Championships, the NRAI also revealed the team for the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol), which will be held in Ningbo, China. This event is slated for September 7th to September 15th, providing another crucial international platform for Indian shooters.
Notably, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker has secured her spot in the Asian Championships squad for both the 10m air pistol and 25m air pistol events. However, she will not be part of the World Cup team. Meanwhile, other strong performers like Esha Singh (25m pistol), Mehuli Ghosh (air rifle), and Kiran Ankush Jadhav (air rifle) have earned a place in both senior squads.
The Ningbo-bound World Cup squad also features Olympic bronze-medalist Swapnil Kusale and former Asian Games champion and Olympian Rahi Sarnobat, adding significant experience to the roster.
Junior Talent Also in Focus
The national federation didn’t stop at senior squads, also announcing the teams for the junior Asian Championships and Junior World Cup. This highlights India’s focus on nurturing young talent for the future.
A specific change in the junior lineups sees Raiza Dhillon participating in the senior women’s skeet team for the Delhi World Cup. This means Mansi Raghuvanshi will take her place in the junior ASC team, showcasing the strategic development of promising athletes.
