Taiwan has witnessed a significant surge in Indian tourist arrivals, reporting a jump of over 30% between January and May 2025, reflecting a strong recovery and growing interest from Indian travelers.
A Striking Rise in Indian Visitors
During the first five months of 2025, Taiwan welcomed 19,202 Indian visitors. This marks a substantial increase from the 14,688 Indian travelers who visited during the same period in 2024, representing a 30.73 percent year-on-year growth.
This impressive performance highlights Taiwan’s successful efforts to re-engage with the Indian market. The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) officially returned to India in January 2024, launching a comprehensive 360-degree development strategy.
Strategic Return to the Indian Market
In the first full year of its renewed focus, Taiwan attracted a total of 38,158 Indian tourists in 2024. This figure represents a 20.81 percent increase compared to 2023, showcasing the immediate positive impact of TTA’s efforts.
Paul Shih, Director of TTA’s Singapore Office, expressed strong optimism about India’s potential for outbound tourism. He noted that TTA has diligently worked to build robust tourism ties with India’s rapidly expanding outbound market, particularly by strengthening partnerships with the Indian travel trade.
Outpacing Global Tourism Trends
The growth in Indian outbound travel to Taiwan has significantly outperformed India’s overall outbound tourism. Last year, the 20.81 percent rise in Indian visitors to Taiwan was nearly 2.5 times greater than India’s overall outbound growth, which stood at 8.44 percent.
This exceptional growth positions Taiwan as a rapidly emerging destination for Indian travelers, demonstrating the effectiveness of TTA’s targeted campaigns and trade collaborations.
“Waves of Wonder” and Niche Offerings
As part of its ongoing expansion strategy, TTA is aligning its promotional activities under the global theme, “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder.” Recent initiatives include promoting Taiwan’s burgeoning golf tourism sector, specifically targeting India’s high-net-worth golf enthusiasts and corporate travelers.
TTA is actively collaborating with golf tour operators, online travel agencies, and luxury travel providers. Their goal is to promote bespoke experiences that combine golf with other premium offerings such as spa and wellness retreats, and unique culinary journeys.
The administration is also broadening its regional outreach, conducting roadshows in cities like Kolkata to tap into East India’s growing travel market.
India: A Top Market for Taiwan
India has now solidified its position as Taiwan’s leading South Asian source market, both in terms of visitor numbers and tourism expenditure. TTA plans to further deepen its engagement in the Indian market by investing in more trade activations and combining them with impactful consumer-facing campaigns.
These efforts aim to make Taiwan an even more accessible and appealing destination for a wider range of Indian travelers.
