India is set to become a major hub for international shooting, securing two prestigious events for the 2027-2028 cycle of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
India Wins Big on the Global Shooting Calendar
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) recently announced its 2027 and 2028 calendars, and India emerged as a significant host. The nation will welcome the ISSF World Cup, featuring Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun disciplines, in 2027.
Following this, India has also been awarded the ISSF Junior World Championship for Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun in 2028. These events highlight India’s growing prominence in the global shooting community.
A Busy Schedule for Indian Shooters
These two major wins add to an already packed schedule for Indian shooting. The country is already preparing to host the ISSF Junior World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in September 2025.
Before that, the first-ever edition of the franchise-based Shooting League of India (SLI) is set to debut this November. Looking ahead, the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup is also scheduled for February 2026 in India.
Leaders Express Enthusiasm
Shri Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), shared his excitement about these developments. He emphasized that hosting an international event annually until the LA Olympics provides crucial preparation for senior athletes.
It also offers invaluable exposure for junior shooters, allowing them to experience elite competition on home soil. The launch of the Shooting League of India further boosts these efforts.
NRAI Secretary General Mr. K. Sultan Singh echoed these sentiments, noting that the ISSF’s decision reflects their confidence in India’s ability to host world-class events. He acknowledged the unwavering support from the Government of India, the Sports Ministry, and the Sports Authority of India.
Global Stage: Other Key Host Cities
Beyond India, the ISSF also confirmed other major host cities for the prestigious World Championships in 2027. These championships will serve as crucial qualification events for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Daegu, South Korea, will host the World Championship for Rifle and Pistol, marking Korea’s third time hosting this major event. Daegu will also be the venue for the ISSF World Cup Final in 2027.
Meanwhile, Cairo, Egypt, has been chosen to host the 2027 World Championship for Shotgun. Cairo has recent experience, having hosted rifle and pistol World Cup events from 2022 to 2024.
