Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have made significant strides in the latest ICC rankings, with Sharma reaching the pinnacle of T20I batting and Jadeja strengthening his hold as the world’s top Test all-rounder.

Abhishek Sharma Claims Top T20I Spot

Young Indian talent Abhishek Sharma has ascended to the top of the ICC men’s T20 rankings for batters. This remarkable achievement comes after Australian Travis Head missed his side’s recent five-match series against the West Indies, ending Head’s year-long reign.

The 24-year-old now boasts 829 rating points, placing him ahead of Head, who is in second with 814 points. Sharma is only the third Indian player to reach this elite position in T20I batting, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

Ravindra Jadeja Dominates Test All-Rounder Rankings

Meanwhile, India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has further solidified his status as the world’s No. 1 Test all-rounder. Following his heroics at Old Trafford, Jadeja now holds a commanding lead with 422 rating points.

His impressive performance, which included four wickets and a fighting unbeaten 107, earned him an additional 13 rating points. He now sits a substantial 117 points clear of Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is in second place. Jadeja also saw improvements in his individual batting and bowling rankings, moving up to 29th among batters and 14th among bowlers.

Other Key Movers in Test Cricket

Washington Sundar also saw a notable rise in the Test rankings. After his maiden Test century and a crucial 203-run partnership with Jadeja, Sundar moved up eight places to 65th among batters. He also climbed to joint-13th among all-rounders, having taken two wickets in the match.

England’s Joe Root extended his lead as the top-ranked Test batter, further increasing the gap with second-placed Kane Williamson. Root’s fine 150 in Manchester was key to this gain. His captain, Ben Stokes, also moved up three places to third among Test all-rounders, marking his highest ranking since December 2022 after a five-for and a valuable 141.

In the bowling department, England’s Jofra Archer made an impressive return, climbing 38 places to 63rd after his three-wicket haul. Chris Woakes also gained, moving up one spot to 23rd. Several English batters also improved their positions, including Ben Duckett (up five places to 10th), Zak Crawley (up to 43rd), and Ollie Pope (up to 24th).

T20I Gains for Australia and West Indies

The conclusion of the T20I series between Australia and the West Indies also led to shifts in the rankings. Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis broke into the top 10, rising six places to ninth position after scoring 172 runs, including two half-centuries.

Teammates Tim David (up 12 places to 18th) and Cameron Green (up 64 places to 24th) achieved career-best rankings. For the West Indies, Brandon King moved up nine places to joint-21st.

  • Abhishek Sharma is the third Indian to become the No.1 T20I batter.
  • Ravindra Jadeja has significantly extended his lead as the No.1 Test all-rounder.
  • Washington Sundar also made notable gains in Test batting and all-rounder rankings.

These latest rankings underscore the dynamic nature of international cricket and the standout performances by players across formats.
