Goa has officially welcomed its first privately owned solar-electric passenger cruise boat, marking a significant step towards sustainable tourism in the state.

Pioneering a Green Cruise Experience

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently unveiled the innovative vessel on the Mandovi River. This launch signals a new era for eco-friendly travel options in the popular tourist destination.

The event, held at the Floating Jetty in Panaji, was also attended by Union Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy, Shripad Naik. The groundbreaking boat is the result of a collaboration between Goa Solar Power House and LRAJ Green Solutions Pvt Ltd.

Boosting Tourism, Reducing Carbon Footprints

Chief Minister Sawant emphasized the dual benefits of this initiative. He stated that such projects are crucial for boosting the tourism sector while simultaneously working to reduce the state’s carbon footprint.

He also highlighted the central government’s strong support for green energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration actively encourages the adoption of renewable energy sources to lessen the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels, a vision perfectly aligned with this new cruise.

India’s Growing Green Fleet

A spokesperson from LRAJ Green Solutions confirmed that this vessel is the first fully operational solar-electric boat of its kind in Goa. Its successful deployment here is a testament to advancing green technology in the region.

The technology behind this eco-friendly boat is not entirely new to India. It has already been successfully implemented in various other states, including Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. This widespread adoption underscores a national commitment to cleaner transportation solutions.
