The updated Renault Kwid EV has been caught in production form in Brazil, revealing a significant design overhaul and a rugged new look.
A Fresh, Rugged Design
Renault is getting ready to launch an all-electric version of the Kwid, which shares its core with the Dacia Spring EV that debuted last year. New spy shots from Brazil show the electric Kwid in its final production trim, looking more robust than ever before.
Designers have given the new Kwid EV a striking, Duster-like appearance, making it look brawny and ready for adventure. This move aims to position it as one of the most affordable electric vehicles in its segment across various markets.
The front fascia is completely new, featuring slim, horizontal LED daytime running lamps and a prominent plastic grille with vertical slats. The Renault logo takes center stage, cleverly concealing the charging socket behind it – a neat trick also seen on the Dacia Spring EV.
The main headlamps are now located lower down on the bumper, which has been widened and includes an air intake. Despite these modern updates, some familiar elements from the current India-spec Kwid remain, such as the doors, fenders, and traditional pull-type door handles.
Around the back, the bumper has received subtle tweaks. While the tail-lamps maintain a familiar shape, they now feature new Y-shaped LED lighting elements, echoing the Duster’s design. These new lights are connected by a sleek, glossy black plastic panel across the tailgate.
Expected Interiors and Features
Although images of the new Kwid EV’s interior haven’t been released, it’s expected to mirror its Dacia sibling. This means we can anticipate a completely new dashboard design and improved material quality throughout the cabin.
The updated interior will likely include a new steering wheel and borrow some components, such as the HVAC panel, directly from the Duster. Higher variants are also anticipated to offer advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), boosting safety and convenience.
Battery and Range Expectations
The Kwid EV is likely to adopt the same powertrain setup as the Dacia Spring EV. This means it could come with two motor options: a 45hp version and a more powerful 65hp iteration, both driving the front wheels.
A 26.8kWh battery pack is expected to power the Kwid EV, promising a driving range of approximately 220km on a single charge, similar to its Dacia counterpart.
India Launch: What We Know
While the current-generation Kwid in India is due for an update, there’s no official word yet on whether Renault plans to bring the Kwid EV to the Indian market. However, the updated Dacia Spring EV has been spotted undergoing tests in India, hinting at potential considerations.
If launched, the Kwid EV would enter a competitive segment, challenging established players like the Tata Tiago EV and the MG Comet. In the meantime, Renault is focused on launching updated versions of the Triber and Kiger, alongside the much-anticipated all-new Duster, in India.
- The new Renault Kwid EV features a major design overhaul with Duster-inspired rugged looks.
- It gets split headlamps, a new grille, and Y-shaped LED tail-lamps.
