A new 30-kilometer expressway linking Delhi to the upcoming Jewar International Airport via Noida has received approval, promising to ease congestion and cut travel times significantly.
A Game-Changer for Delhi-NCR Commute
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has given the green light to a vital new expressway set to transform travel within the Delhi-NCR region. This 30-kilometer stretch aims to directly connect Delhi with the Noida International Airport (Jewar), bypassing current bottlenecks.
The primary goal is to relieve pressure on the heavily used Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and drastically reduce the journey duration to the new airport, which is expected to open in September 2025.
Understanding the New Route
This newly approved expressway will run parallel to the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Its route is designed to follow the Yamuna River, utilizing the Pushta Road for a more direct path.
The strategic alignment will ensure direct connectivity between Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and the Jewar Airport. Importantly, it will also seamlessly merge with both the Yamuna Expressway and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. This design allows commuters from Delhi to reach Jewar Airport without navigating the often-congested core sectors of Noida, such as 15, 16, 18, and 37.
Funding and Execution Details
This expressway is part of a larger infrastructure development push in the Delhi-NCR region, where projects worth an impressive ₹1.2 lakh crore are currently underway. Minister Gadkari noted that ₹60,000 crore of this has already been completed.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be responsible for the execution of this project. The estimated funding required for this specific expressway is between ₹40,000 crore and ₹50,000 crore.
The concept for this essential route was initially proposed by MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma. It gained traction and secured approval from the Centre with strong support from the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).
Boosting Regional Connectivity and Growth
More than just a new road, this expressway is viewed as a significant step forward in NCR’s urban and economic planning. It promises enhanced connectivity, making travel to the Jewar Airport much more convenient and efficient for millions.
This project is expected to drive infrastructure-led growth, creating new opportunities and fostering development across the region. As the September 2025 opening date for Jewar Airport approaches, this expressway is poised to become one of the most crucial arteries in the entire Delhi-NCR road network.
