Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah etched his name into cricket history, achieving his 15th Test five-wicket haul and securing a coveted spot on the Lord’s Honours Board for the first time.

Bumrah’s Masterclass at Lord’s

In a stunning display of skill, Bumrah delivered figures of 5/74 across 27 overs, including five maidens. This exceptional performance played a crucial role in dismissing England for 387 in their first innings of the third Test.

His dominance began on Day 1, claiming the vital wicket of Harry Brook. Day 2 saw him unleash a devastating early spell, adding three more wickets before completing his fifer in the second session.

A Series of Triumphs

This remarkable five-wicket haul marks Bumrah’s second consecutive one in the current series. He previously achieved the feat in the first innings of the first Test, showcasing his consistent impact.

Notably, Bumrah had rested for the second Test, where youngsters Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj stepped up to secure a series-levelling victory for India in his absence.

Key Moments of the Innings

England started Day 2 on 251/4, with Joe Root nearing a century. Root quickly reached his 37th Test ton, but Bumrah swiftly dismantled the English middle order.

In a breathtaking seven-ball burst, Bumrah dismissed Joe Root (104), Ben Stokes (44), and Chris Woakes (0), transforming England’s comfortable 251/4 into a precarious 271/7.

Despite a resilient 85-run eighth-wicket stand between Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56), Bumrah returned to clean up Jofra Archer, sealing his second fifer in as many appearances.

Breaking Records and Setting New Benchmarks

Beyond his individual brilliance, Bumrah’s latest five-wicket haul is his 13th in Tests played away from home. This impressive statistic shatters a long-standing record.

He now holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler in overseas Tests, surpassing legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev achieved 12 five-fors in 66 away Tests, while Bumrah has reached 13 in just 35. This highlights his phenomenal strike rate and effectiveness abroad.

What’s more, Bumrah clean-bowled four of his victims in this innings: Root, Brook, Stokes, and Archer. This is only the second time in his career he has managed such a feat, the previous being in 2019 in the Caribbean during his memorable 5/7 spell. Mohammed Shami is the only other Indian pacer to have accomplished this once.

  • Jasprit Bumrah achieved his 15th Test five-wicket haul.
  • He secured his name on the Lord’s Honours Board for the first time.
  • Bumrah broke Kapil Dev’s record for most five-fors by an Indian bowler in overseas Tests (13 in 35 Tests compared to Dev’s 12 in 66).
  • His performance included dismissing four batsmen bowled, a rare feat for an Indian pacer.

Bumrah’s consistent performance continues to be a cornerstone of India’s Test success, and his record-breaking achievements cement his place among the game’s elite fast bowlers.
