During the third Test at Lord’s, India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury, leading to Dhruv Jurel stepping in as the wicketkeeper.

Rishabh Pant Injured at Lord’s

The incident occurred on the opening day of the third Test at Lord’s. Rishabh Pant was grimacing in pain after diving to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah that was sprayed down the leg side.

Despite getting his hands on the ball, Pant couldn’t fully stop it, allowing England’s Joe Root and Ollie Pope to score two runs. Play was briefly halted as Pant received on-field treatment from the Indian support staff.

However, the treatment didn’t provide enough relief. Pant was seen shaking his hand, indicating discomfort. He eventually left the field after the completion of Bumrah’s over.

BCCI Provides an Update

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) swiftly issued an update on Pant’s condition. They confirmed that the India vice-captain was hit on his left index finger.

According to the BCCI, Pant is currently receiving treatment and is under the close supervision of the medical team. This update clarified the reason for his absence from the field.

Dhruv Jurel Takes Over Wicketkeeping Duties

Following Pant’s exit, Dhruv Jurel took over the wicketkeeping responsibilities. Jurel, who was not part of the initial playing XI for the third Test, stepped in as a substitute.

Under cricket rules, a substitute can field for an injured player, including taking over specialist roles like wicketkeeping, provided the injured player has left the field with permission from the umpires.

Match Progress Continues

While India dealt with the injury setback, the match continued its course. England’s batters, Joe Root and Ollie Pope, steadily built their innings, reaching 153 for two at tea.

England, typically known for their aggressive “Bazball” approach, adopted a more traditional Test match batting strategy in this session. They focused on leaving deliveries outside off-stump and ensuring no further damage was done.

Earlier in the morning session, India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy had made an impact by striking twice in an eventful over, leaving England at 83 for two at lunch.

  • Rishabh Pant sustained an injury to his left index finger.
  • Dhruv Jurel is currently substituting for Pant as wicketkeeper.
  • Pant is receiving treatment and is under medical supervision.

Fans will be hoping for a quick recovery for Rishabh Pant as the crucial Test match unfolds at Lord’s.
