Aprilia has officially launched its new SR 175 scooter in India, priced at Rs 1.26 lakh, bringing fresh updates and a more powerful engine to replace the outgoing SR 160 model.

Powering Up: The New Engine

The biggest news for the SR 175 is its brand-new 174.7cc engine. This air-cooled, single-cylinder unit features a 3-valve setup, delivering a noticeable boost in performance.

According to dealer sources, the increase in displacement comes from a larger bore. This new motor now churns out 12.92 horsepower at 7,200rpm and 14.14Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm.

These figures represent a significant improvement over the SR 160, which offered 11.27hp and 13.44Nm. Riders can expect a more spirited and responsive experience on the road.

Tech-Savvy Display and Connectivity

Another exciting upgrade for the SR 175 is the introduction of a vibrant colour TFT display. This unit looks strikingly similar to those found on Aprilia’s popular RS 457 and Tuono 457 motorcycles.

While the overall design is familiar, the SR 175’s interface and animations are unique. Dealer information suggests that the screen offers multiple layout options, allowing riders to customize their view.

Just like its sportier siblings, the new display includes Bluetooth connectivity. This feature lets you pair your smartphone via the Aprilia app, providing convenient access to call alerts, notifications, and music control right on your scooter’s dashboard.

Design and Underpinnings

Visually, the new Aprilia SR 175 maintains the sporty and aggressive styling of its predecessor. It is nearly identical to the SR 160 in terms of overall design.

However, Aprilia has introduced fresh colour options that appear to draw inspiration from the RS 457. Shades like white with red accents and a striking purple with red detailing closely resemble the paint schemes seen on the popular sportbike.

Underneath, much of the mechanical setup remains consistent with the SR 160. The scooter continues to use the same frame, suspension components, and braking system.

It rides on 14-inch wheels at both the front and rear, fitted with wide 120-section tyres for good grip. Braking is handled by a front disc with single-channel ABS for added safety, complemented by a reliable rear drum brake.

Price and Market Rivals

Priced at Rs 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aprilia SR 175 steps into a competitive segment in the Indian scooter market. It aims to carve out its niche by offering a blend of sporty performance and premium features.

The new SR 175 will primarily go head-to-head with models like the Yamaha Aerox 155, known for its performance-oriented nature, and the Hero Xoom 160, which also offers a larger engine displacement.
