Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in Guwahati, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man.
Actor Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run
The shocking incident occurred in the Dakkhingaon area of Guwahati during the early hours of Friday. A car, allegedly driven by Nandini Kashyap, reportedly struck a two-wheeler.
The victim, 21-year-old Samiul Haque, tragically passed away while undergoing treatment for his injuries. Nandini Kashyap was reportedly detained on Tuesday, with her arrest officially recorded on Wednesday, after which she was produced in court.
The Incident Unfolds on Camera
CCTV footage of the accident has emerged, showing the vehicle involved was speeding at the time of the collision. Crucially, the footage also suggests that the driver did not stop to check on the victim.
Eyewitnesses further claimed that the driver immediately fled the scene after the impact. However, Samiul Haque’s friends reportedly chased the vehicle down and confronted the driver.
Who is Nandini Kashyap?
Nandini Kashyap is an emerging figure in the Assamese film industry, best known for her lead role as Surabhi in the recent box office hit *Rudra*. She also maintains a significant presence on social media, boasting over 52.5K followers on Instagram.
According to her social media profiles, she has been active in the entertainment industry since 2018, working as an actor, anchor, model, and dancer. Originally from Guwahati, she is also known by the name Nikita.
Her educational background includes studies at Faculty Higher Secondary School in Amingaon, Guwahati, followed by a bachelor’s degree from the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya, which she completed in 2021.
While she appeared in several music videos since 2018, her cinematic debut came in 2022 with the Assamese film *Janaknandini*. In this movie, she played the lead role, and it was notably directed by her mother, Kunjalta Gogoi Das, and produced by her parents.
Her career gained further momentum earlier this year with the success of *Rudra*, which also featured actors like Ravi Sharma and Adil Hussain. The film was written by director Roopak Gogoi and released on June 27.
A Troubling Driving Record
This recent incident may not be Nandini Kashyap’s first encounter with vehicular offenses. According to Guwahati Police Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah, her vehicle has a history of violations.
Borah stated that “Kashyap’s vehicle was penalised several times for speeding and many challans were issued in different districts.” This suggests a pattern of past driving infractions.
