Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently opened up about a professional disagreement he had with Aamir Khan on the sets of their 1993 film, ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’.

A Clash of Interpretations

Anupam Kher recounted an incident where Aamir Khan expressed dissatisfaction with his acting during the climax scene of ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’. Kher played a father advising his daughter to flee her wedding, a scene he chose to perform with a comedic touch.

According to Kher, he believed only a character “not in his senses” would make such a suggestion, leading him to deliver the lines humorously. This artistic choice, however, didn’t sit well with Aamir Khan.

Aamir Khan’s Complaint to Mahesh Bhatt

Aamir Khan, despite being a co-actor, reportedly took his concerns directly to the film’s director, Mahesh Bhatt. Kher noted that Aamir was “just an actor like me,” implying he overstepped by complaining about another actor’s performance to the director.

Mahesh Bhatt then informed Anupam Kher about Aamir’s feedback, which Kher stated “further fuelled tension on set.”

The “NSD Gold Medalist” Responds

Upon hearing Aamir’s complaint, Anupam Kher recalled that his “inner National School of Drama gold medalist was unleashed.” He asked Mahesh Bhatt if he was satisfied with his performance.

When Bhatt confirmed his approval, Kher asserted, “Then let’s continue as we were.” This firmly shut down Aamir’s suggestion and upheld Kher’s artistic vision for the scene.

Lingering On-Set Tension

Anupam Kher also revealed in a separate interview that Aamir Khan remained “upset” with him for the entire duration of the film’s shoot. He attributed this to Aamir being at a crucial stage of his career, “becoming Aamir Khan, which he wanted to become.”

Despite the past conflict, Kher expressed his continued affection for Aamir, acknowledging their professional journey.

Clarifying Another Incident with Mahesh Bhatt

Kher also took the opportunity to clarify a separate, widely reported incident at a press conference where he was seen telling Mahesh Bhatt to leave. He explained that there could never be any real differences between them, as he considers Bhatt a father figure.

Kher clarified that Bhatt was simply hungry, and he was merely telling him to go get lunch. He emphasized that Bhatt is “too important for me to disrespect him like that.”

  • Anupam Kher chose a comedic interpretation for a serious scene in ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’.
  • Aamir Khan disliked this choice and complained to director Mahesh Bhatt.
  • Kher defended his performance, supported by Bhatt, and rejected Aamir’s critique.
  • Aamir Khan was reportedly upset with Kher for the rest of the film’s production.
  • Kher clarified an unrelated incident with Mahesh Bhatt, emphasizing their strong bond.

These anecdotes offer a rare glimpse into the dynamics and occasional creative friction that can arise even among Bollywood’s biggest stars.
