Aprilia has officially launched its new SR 175 scooter in India, priced at Rs 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing a more powerful engine and advanced features to the lineup.
The New Aprilia SR 175: What’s New?
The Aprilia SR 175 steps in to replace the popular SR 160 in the brand’s Indian portfolio. This launch marks a significant upgrade, offering riders more power and modern technology.
It’s important to note that the initial price of Rs 1.26 lakh is set to increase by Rs 2,000 starting in August, so prospective buyers might want to act quickly.
Under the Hood: A More Potent Engine
The most significant change in the SR 175 is its newly developed 174.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This motor features a 3-valve setup, delivering a noticeable boost in performance.
This new engine churns out 12.92hp at 7,200rpm and 14.14Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. This is a healthy improvement over the SR 160’s 11.27hp and 13.44Nm, promising a more spirited ride.
The increased displacement, according to dealer sources, comes from a larger bore, optimizing power delivery for a better riding experience.
Smart Tech: A Familiar TFT Display
A key enhancement for the SR 175 is the introduction of a colour TFT display. This unit looks strikingly similar to the screens found on Aprilia’s high-performance RS 457 and Tuono 457 motorcycles.
While the hardware is similar, the SR 175’s interface and animations are unique. Dealer sources indicate that it offers multiple layout options for riders to choose from.
Just like the 457s, this new display features Bluetooth connectivity. This allows you to pair your smartphone via the Aprilia app for convenient call alerts, notifications, and music control on the go.
Riding Dynamics Remain Consistent
Aprilia has maintained the proven mechanical components from the SR 160. This includes the frame, suspension setup, braking system, and tyre specifications.
The scooter continues to ride on 14-inch wheels at both the front and rear, fitted with wide 120-section tyres for good grip. Braking duties are handled by a front disc brake with single-channel ABS, complemented by a reliable rear drum brake.
Sporty Aesthetics with New Colours
Visually, the new Aprilia SR 175 retains the same sporty and aggressive design as its predecessor, the SR 160. However, Aprilia has introduced fresh colour options that draw inspiration from the RS 457.
Expect to see shades like a striking white with red accents and a unique purple with red, both closely mirroring the dynamic paint schemes seen on the RS 457 sports bike.
Market Competition
Priced at Rs 1.26 lakh, the Aprilia SR 175 positions itself competitively in the premium scooter segment. It will go head-to-head with models like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the recently launched Hero Xoom 160.
