MG Motor is set to launch its premium electric MPV, the M9, in India on July 21, following its debut at Auto Expo 2025.

Launch Details and Market Position

The MG M9 is expected to hit the Indian market with an ex-showroom price of around Rs 70 lakh. This luxury electric MPV will be exclusively retailed through MG’s premium Select showroom network.

At this price point, the M9 will position itself strategically between existing luxury MPVs like the Kia Carnival, which is priced at Rs 63.91 lakh, and the more expensive Toyota Vellfire, ranging from Rs 1.22 crore to Rs 1.32 crore.

Striking Exterior Design

The M9 boasts impressive dimensions, making it larger than its luxury MPV rivals. It measures 5,200mm in length, 2,000mm in width, and 1,800mm in height, with a substantial 3,200mm wheelbase.

Its front fascia features a distinctive split headlight setup with a sleek DRL strip, complemented by prominent chrome accents on the bumper and a large trapezoidal air dam. Along the sides, 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with self-healing Continental ContiSeal tyres are visible, alongside a unique Z-shaped chrome trim on the window line and convenient electrically sliding rear doors.

The rear design is equally striking, with sharp connected LED tail-lamps that extend downwards, a spoiler incorporating an integrated stop lamp, and additional chrome detailing on the bumper.

Luxurious and Feature-Rich Interior

Step inside the M9, and you are greeted by a plush cabin adorned with cognac brown leather and suede upholstery across its three-row layout. The dashboard houses a 12.23-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, and a modern two-spoke steering wheel.

As is common in many electric vehicles, the M9 features a ‘floating’ centre console design, which cleverly frees up additional storage space underneath.

Ultimate Second-Row Comfort

The second row is the M9’s highlight, offering reclinable captain’s chairs equipped with massage, heating, and cooling functions. These seats also come with fold-out ottomans for supreme leg comfort. Occupants can control seat adjustments and entertainment features via dedicated touchscreens mounted on the headrests.

Adding to the ambiance are 64-colour ambient lighting and manual sunshades. The M9 also includes a ‘boss mode,’ which allows the front passenger seat to slide forward, maximizing rear legroom for the second-row occupants. The third row is designed to comfortably accommodate up to three individuals and includes AC vents and USB-A charging ports.

Practicality is also key, with boot space standing at 945 litres, expandable to 1,720 litres when the third row is folded down. There’s also a handy 55-litre frunk (front trunk) for extra storage.

Advanced Tech and Safety

The India-spec M9 is packed with an array of creature comforts and advanced technology. These include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital IRVM, a cabin air filter, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, and a 360-degree camera.

A premium 13-speaker JBL sound system enhances the audio experience, while connected car technology, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionality add further convenience. For safety, the M9 is well-equipped with 7 airbags, Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), front and rear disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electronic stability program (ESP). The MPV has also achieved a 5-star safety rating in both Euro NCAP and Australian NCAP crash tests.

Powertrain and Range

Powering the M9 is a 90kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, known for its energy density. This battery drives a front-mounted electric motor that generates a robust 245hp and 350Nm of torque, ensuring smooth and capable performance.

According to MG’s internal testing, the M9 delivers an impressive claimed range of 548km on a single charge. For charging, it supports a 160kW DC fast charger, capable of replenishing the battery from 0-100 percent in just 90 minutes. For home charging, an 11kW AC charger will fully charge the battery in about 10 hours.
