The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has officially arrived in India, featuring a sharper design, updated tech, and a new engine, starting at Rs 46.90 lakh.

Meet the New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

BMW has launched the second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe (F74) in India, positioning it as the brand’s entry-level model. This latest iteration is notably larger and boasts more features than its predecessor (F44).

For now, Indian buyers will only find a petrol engine option. The base 218 M Sport trim kicks off at Rs 46.90 lakh, while the fully-loaded 218 M Sport Pro variant is priced at Rs 48.90 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, India).

Sleeker Design, More Presence

The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe showcases a more angular and aggressive design than before. It’s grown in size, now 20mm longer, 15mm wider, and 15mm taller, giving it a more substantial road presence.

Upfront, you’ll spot sleeker LED headlights with distinctive diagonal DRLs and vertical air intakes. The signature BMW kidney grille has evolved into a unified unit, featuring vertical and diagonal slats, a blocked-off centre, and an illuminated frame for a modern touch.

Along the side, subtle character lines, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a unique ‘2’ engraving in the Hofmeister kink add to its appeal. The rear design is equally striking, replacing the old slim tail-lamps with chunkier units that have a distinctive cut-out. A sporty diffuser-like bumper and vertical air exits complete the rear profile.

Step Inside: Tech and Comfort

A Modern Cockpit

Inside, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe greets occupants with a curved dual-screen setup. This comprises a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, both angled towards the driver for optimal ergonomics.

The cabin features a three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters, and the centre console has been streamlined, integrating most functions into the touchscreen for a cleaner look.

Innovative Features

Ambient lighting beneath the aircon vents adds a touch of flair, changing colour based on temperature adjustments. Below these vents, a cluster of buttons provides quick access to the gear selector, drive modes, and a unique roof-mounted camera.

This new roof-mounted camera can capture photos or record videos of occupants, allowing for easy export to a smartphone – a fun new addition. Another neat feature is the Digital Key, which lets users remotely control car functions like locking/unlocking, pre-cooling the cabin, and accessing the boot via a smartphone. This digital key can even be shared with up to five other users.

Other notable features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, auto park assist, rear AC vents, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety is enhanced with a blind spot monitor and Lane Keep Assist. However, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and rear sunshades are not available in this model.

Engine Downsize, Performance Shift

Under the hood, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe sees a significant change. It’s now powered by a smaller 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces 156hp and 230Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the front wheels.

This is a departure from the previous model’s 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which offered 176hp and 280Nm. The previous generation also had a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel option, making 190hp and 400Nm.

BMW states the new 2 Series Gran Coupe can accelerate from 0-100kph in 8.6 seconds. This is 1.5 seconds slower than the predecessor’s claimed 7.1 seconds, reflecting the shift to the smaller engine.

Price and Competition

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with a starting price that’s Rs 2.5 lakh higher than the outgoing model. Its main competitor in the Indian market is the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan.

The A-Class is priced between Rs 46.05 lakh and Rs 48.55 lakh, and it offers both petrol and diesel engine options. Compared to the entry-level Mercedes, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe’s petrol variants are Rs 85,000 to Rs 2.85 lakh more expensive.

  • The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe launches in India starting at Rs 46.90 lakh.
  • It features a larger, more angular design and a tech-heavy interior with dual screens.
  • A new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (156hp) powers the car, differing from the previous 2.0-litre unit.
  • Key new features include a roof-mounted camera and Digital Key functionality.

This second-generation model aims to reinforce BMW’s presence in the premium entry-level sedan segment, balancing luxury, technology, and a distinct driving experience.
