Filmmaker SS Rajamouli recently faced an uncomfortable situation with a fan who attempted to take a selfie during the solemn last rites of veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao in Hyderabad.

An Unwanted Encounter at a Somber Event

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon as Rajamouli was leaving the Maha Prasthanam after paying his respects to the late actor. A crowd of fans had gathered, eager to catch a glimpse of the renowned filmmaker.

As Rajamouli’s wife, Rama Rajamouli, entered their car, the director followed. However, a persistent fan managed to break through, repeatedly insisting on a selfie despite the grave occasion.

Though police were present, they were primarily focused on controlling the larger crowd at the gate. The fan continued to pursue Rajamouli right up to his vehicle, forcing the filmmaker to physically push him away and scold him for the imposition.

Public Outcry Over Fan’s Disrespectful Act

A video of the encounter quickly circulated online, drawing widespread condemnation from internet users. Many voiced their disapproval, emphasizing that a funeral is a sacred and private moment, wholly inappropriate for seeking selfies or autographs.

The sentiment online was clear: respect for the deceased and their grieving family should always take precedence over celebrity encounters.

Paying Tribute to a Legend

Earlier that day, SS Rajamouli had expressed his condolences for Kota Srinivasa Rao on his social media handle. He penned a heartfelt tribute, acknowledging Rao’s immense talent and impact on cinema.

“Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Kota Srinivasa Rao garu. A master of his craft, a legend who breathed life into every character he portrayed,” Rajamouli wrote. “His presence on screen was truly irreplaceable. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti.”
