Yamaha India has just expanded its lineup of commuter motorcycles with the launch of the FZ-X Hybrid, now available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.50 lakh in Delhi. This new model brings a blend of modern features and fuel-saving technology, similar to its recently introduced sibling, the FZ-S Hybrid.
What’s New with the FZ-X Hybrid?
The FZ-X Hybrid sets itself apart from the standard FZ-X with a few key enhancements designed to improve the riding experience and efficiency. One of the most notable additions is the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG).
This clever piece of technology enables a silent engine start, eliminating the usual cranking sound. It also powers the start/stop system, which automatically turns off the engine when the bike is idle in traffic, and seamlessly restarts it when you twist the throttle, helping to conserve fuel.
Another significant upgrade is the new 4.2-inch color TFT display. This vibrant screen replaces the older unit and comes with revamped switchgear, giving riders better control over various functions and on-screen information. It’s a modern touch that enhances the bike’s overall appeal and user interface.
Engine Performance and Design
Beneath the updated features, the Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is powered by the familiar 149cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This reliable powertrain delivers the same output as the non-hybrid FZ models, producing 12.4hp of power and 13.3Nm of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox.
It’s important to understand that Yamaha’s hybrid system for its 150cc commuter bikes focuses entirely on improving fuel efficiency. It does not provide any boost to the engine’s performance, which is why the peak output figures remain unchanged from the standard versions.
Visually and in terms of core specifications like chassis and suspension, the FZ-X Hybrid largely mirrors the regular FZ-X. The only minor difference in physical attributes is its weight. The hybrid variant weighs 141kg, making it just 2kg heavier than the standard model, a negligible difference in everyday riding.
Pricing and Exclusive Color
The new Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid comes in an exclusive single color option that truly stands out. It’s finished in a sleek matte green, which Yamaha calls “Matte Titan,” beautifully contrasted with distinctive golden wheels.
Priced at Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the FZ-X Hybrid is positioned higher than its non-hybrid counterpart. It carries a premium of Rs 20,000 over the standard FZ-X. Interestingly, it is also Rs 5,000 more expensive than the recently launched FZ-S Hybrid, reflecting its unique feature set and styling.
