Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam showcased a dominant performance at the Madrid Archery World Cup, clinching three medals and setting a new world record.

Individual Brilliance in Madrid

Jyothi Surekha Vennam secured a silver medal in the women’s compound individual event. She had a nail-biting final against Great Britain’s Ella Gibson, ultimately falling short by just one point with a score of 148-147.

This individual silver capped off an impressive week for the Indian archer.

Women’s Team Secures Silver

Earlier in the day, the formidable Indian women’s compound team, comprising Jyothi, Parneet Kaur, and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep, also earned a silver medal. The trio had a strong start, topping the qualification round with an impressive 2116 points.

They led Chinese Taipei 170-169 after the third end in the final. However, a costly 7 by Parneet in the fourth end allowed Chinese Taipei to secure the gold with a 227-225 victory.

Mixed Team Bronze and World Record

Jyothi also teamed up with Rishabh Yadav in the mixed compound event to win a bronze medal. They defeated El Salvador’s duo of Paola Corado and Douglas Vladimir Nolasco with a score of 156-153 in the playoff for third place.

This pairing had previously made headlines by setting a new mixed team world record during the qualification round. Their combined score of 1431 points from 144 arrows surpassed the previous record of 1429, held by Denmark since 2023.

Rishabh Yadav’s Impressive Run

Rishabh Yadav also had a stellar individual performance, topping the men’s qualification charts with a score of 716. This score marked a new personal best for Rishabh on the international circuit.

His combined efforts with Jyothi in the mixed team event highlighted their consistency and strong partnership.

  • Jyothi Surekha Vennam won three medals: individual silver, women’s team silver, and mixed team bronze.
  • Jyothi and Rishabh Yadav set a new mixed team world record with 1431 points in qualification.
  • The women’s compound team secured silver after topping their qualification round.

The success of the compound mixed team is particularly significant as this event has been added to the Olympic Games roster for LA 2028, offering encouraging signs for India’s archery future.
