BMW Motorrad has unveiled the Titan, a highly customized dragster based on their latest R 1300 R roadster, purpose-built to push the limits of the platform in sprint and drag racing.
Introducing the Titan: A Purpose-Built Drag Machine
The Titan is a groundbreaking custom build from BMW Motorrad, designed from the ground up for extreme performance. This isn’t just a modified street bike; it’s a dedicated drag and sprint racing weapon crafted by a small, dedicated team.
It showcases the potential of the R 1300 R platform when pushed to its absolute extremes, focusing purely on straight-line speed and explosive acceleration.
A Radical Transformation in Design
Visually, the Titan bears little resemblance to the standard R 1300 R. It features large, enveloping intake ducts and exposed air filters, giving it a much more aggressive look.
Most of the body panels have been replaced with stunning forged carbon, a lightweight and incredibly strong material. This is complemented by a unique graphics package in white and striking metallic blue accents.
Ergonomics Tuned for Speed
The rider’s ergonomics have been completely overhauled to suit drag racing. The bike now sports low clip-on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs positioned near the very end of the bike.
High-performance Magura HC3 levers ensure precise control, crucial for lightning-fast starts. Even the TFT display has been relocated, now sitting on the fuel tank just behind the triple tree for optimal rider focus.
Chassis and Stance: Built for Launch
The Titan’s proportions are drastically different from its road-going counterpart. It features an extended single-sided swingarm and a specially designed monocoque chassis, manufactured by Wilbers.
This unique setup allows the bike to sit much lower to the ground. Its weight distribution has also been significantly shifted towards the front wheel, combined with an upgraded lower suspension.
This aggressive, hunkered-down stance, likened to a crouching predator, is engineered to prevent the front wheel from lifting during fierce launches, ensuring all power is transferred directly to the tarmac.
Unleashing the Power: Engine and Exhaust
While the internal components of the 1300cc boxer engine remain unchanged, the Titan gets a serious performance boost. Tucked between the twin underseat exhaust pipes is a massive nitrous oxide (NOS) bottle, providing an extra surge of power on demand.
The exhaust system itself is a marvel, developed in collaboration with long-time BMW partners, Akrapovic. This full titanium system promises to deliver a thunderous roar, perfectly matching the bike’s aggressive nature and explosive acceleration capabilities.
