The pricing for the individual tubeless spoked wheels on the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC has been revealed, shedding light on why this model is the most expensive of the made-in-India Triumph motorcycles.
Understanding the Scrambler 400 XC’s Premium Price
A few months ago, Bajaj expanded the 400cc Triumph lineup with the Scrambler 400 XC. This variant stood out primarily because it featured advanced tubeless spoked wheels, contributing to its higher price tag.
Priced at Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Scrambler 400 XC became the most expensive Indian-made Triumph. Now, we know why: the front wheel alone costs Rs 34,876, and the rear wheel is Rs 36,875 if purchased separately.
The Cost of Quality: Why These Wheels Are Pricey
The Scrambler 400 XC uses cross-spoke wheels, a feature typically found on larger, more premium motorcycles. These rims are imported, which adds to their cost.
Considering the individual wheel prices, Triumph and Bajaj have done well to offer the Scrambler 400 XC at only Rs 27,000 more than the 400 X. This competitive pricing makes the advanced wheel setup quite accessible.
For comparison, similar cross-spoke rims are used on high-end bikes like Triumph’s own Tiger 900 Rally Pro and Scrambler 1200 X. Royal Enfield also recently increased the price for a set of Himalayan 450’s cross-spoke wheels to Rs 40,000, putting Triumph’s pricing in perspective. The XC’s spoked rims are also 1.1 kilos heavier than the 400 X’s alloy wheels.
Can You Upgrade Your Scrambler 400 X?
Good news for existing Triumph Scrambler 400 X owners: you can purchase these tubeless spoked wheels separately. We’ve been informed they are a direct swap for the standard alloy wheels.
However, there’s an important detail regarding warranty. If you buy these wheels aftermarket, the warranty only covers manufacturing defects on the wheel rim itself. There is no warranty available for the spokes, for example, if they get bent.
Tubeless Spoked Wheels: A Growing Trend in India
The Scrambler 400 XC joins a select group of Indian-made motorcycles that offer the convenience of tubeless tyres combined with the rugged appeal of spoked wheels.
Other bikes in this category include the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, the Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350, and the KTM 390 Adventure, all catering to riders who want the best of both worlds in terms of performance and practicality.
- Each tubeless spoked wheel on the Scrambler 400 XC costs over Rs 34,000 individually.
- Despite the high wheel cost, the Scrambler 400 XC is only Rs 27,000 more than the 400 X.
- Owners of the Scrambler 400 X can retrofit these wheels, but spokes will not be covered under warranty.
This reveals the significant investment Triumph has made in bringing premium features to its locally manufactured 400cc lineup.
