A new three-row SUV, likely to be named Renault Boreal, has been spied testing in India, hinting at its global unveiling set for July 10.

First Look: What the Spy Shots Reveal

The upcoming Renault Boreal, a three-row derivative of the Duster, was recently caught on camera undergoing tests in India. It’s expected to be a rebadged version of the Dacia Bigster, which is already available in international markets.

The spy shots reveal a chunky design for both the front and rear bumpers, with thick cladding surrounding the vehicle. Notable exterior features include LED DRLs, pull-type front door handles, and unique B-pillar mounted handles for the rear doors.

Additional details spotted were robust roof rails and a prominent roof spoiler with raised ends, giving it a distinctive look. The Boreal is anticipated to match the Dacia Bigster’s dimensions, measuring 4,570mm in length, 1,810mm in width, and 1,710mm in height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase.

Inside, limited details were visible, but a central touchscreen unit in landscape orientation, likely 10.1 inches, was spotted. Both the Duster and the larger Boreal will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai plant, serving both domestic and export markets.

Under the Hood: Expected Powertrain Options

The Renault Boreal is expected to share its powertrain options with the new Duster. This likely includes a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a strong hybrid variant.

There’s also a possibility of a naturally-aspirated petrol engine being offered. Buyers can look forward to both manual and automatic transmission choices to suit their driving preferences.

While a CNG option might be on the cards for the Boreal, an all-wheel-drive system is considered unlikely due to cost-effectiveness concerns.

India Launch and Competition

Renault plans to introduce the Boreal SUV a few months after the Duster, with its India launch expected in early 2026. While the Bigster is offered as a 5-seater globally, the Renault Boreal is anticipated to be sold as a 7-seater in India.

The Boreal will be positioned above the Duster in Renault’s lineup. It will face stiff competition from established rivals in the Indian market.

Key competitors for the Renault Boreal will include popular models such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus.

  • The Renault Boreal is a three-row SUV based on the Duster, set for global unveiling on July 10.
  • It’s likely a rebadged version of the Dacia Bigster, with similar dimensions and exterior styling.
  • Powertrain options are expected to mirror the new Duster, including a turbo-petrol and a strong hybrid.
  • The Boreal is anticipated to launch in India as a 7-seater in early 2026.

Stay tuned for more updates as Renault gears up for the global reveal of the Boreal SUV next month.
