Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World Rebirth,” starring Scarlett Johansson, has made a monumental impact at the global box office, surpassing $300 million worldwide and significantly outperforming new releases in India.
Dominating the Indian Box Office
“Jurassic World Rebirth” has truly roared in India, collecting Rs 15.75 crore on its third day alone, Sunday. This impressive figure is more than double the earnings of the week’s new Bollywood release, Anurag Basu’s “Metro… In Dino,” which took in Rs 7.25 crore on the same day.
The dinosaur blockbuster consistently held this margin throughout its opening weekend. On Friday, the film debuted with Rs 9 crore, dwarfing “Metro… In Dino’s” Rs 3.5 crore. This trend continued on Saturday, with “Jurassic World Rebirth” earning Rs 13.5 crore compared to “Metro… In Dino’s” Rs 6 crore.
The film’s success in India spans across multiple language versions. While the original English version takes the largest share, dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu also contributed significantly to its strong performance.
A Special Welcome in India
In a unique move, “Jurassic World Rebirth” held a grand premiere for its Hindi dubbed version at the famous Raj Mandir cinema in Jaipur. This highlights the franchise’s long-standing connection with Indian audiences, as the original 1993 “Jurassic Park” was one of the first Hollywood films to be dubbed into Hindi.
Crushing Competitors Beyond Bollywood
The total opening weekend collection for “Jurassic World Rebirth” in India stands at a remarkable Rs 38.25 crore. This is once again more than double that of “Metro… In Dino,” which earned Rs 16.75 crore over the same period.
Moreover, the film’s Indian opening weekend also surpassed the recent action thriller “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, which had collected Rs 21.40 crore last month.
A Global Box Office Roar
Globally, “Jurassic World Rebirth” commanded the Fourth of July holiday box office, achieving a massive five-day launch total of $318.3 million. In North America, the film opened on Wednesday, accumulating $147.3 million in its first five days across 4,308 theaters.
Of this, an estimated $91.5 million came from the traditional three-day weekend (Friday to Sunday). Internationally, the movie opened in 82 markets, adding an impressive $171 million to its total.
China contributed a significant $41.5 million from 65,000 screens, marking the country’s biggest Motion Picture Association (MPA) opening of the year. Despite not being on IMAX screens domestically due to prior commitments, “Jurassic World Rebirth” performed exceptionally well on other premium large formats, including Dolby Cinema, where it earned nearly $8 million from just 167 screens.
