Indian boxers delivered an impressive performance at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing their best-ever medal haul with 11 podium finishes, including three coveted gold medals.

Golden Glory: Women Lead the Charge

The women’s contingent truly shone, clinching all three gold medals for India. Sakshi (54kg) showcased her attacking prowess against Yosline Perez of the USA, securing a unanimous victory in her final bout.

Jaismine (57kg) displayed remarkable composure, overcoming Jucielen Cequeira Romeu of Brazil with a 4:1 decision. Her long reach proved crucial in the final round, allowing her to counter effectively and maintain distance.

Nupur (80+kg) fought back strongly after a challenging start against Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova. She dominated the latter two rounds, landing powerful punches and outmaneuvering her opponent to claim a 5:0 unanimous win.

India’s Best-Ever Medal Haul

India concluded the tournament with a remarkable total of 11 medals. This included three gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, marking the nation’s most successful outing at the World Boxing Cup.

This achievement significantly surpasses their previous performance in the first leg held in Brazil, where India secured six medals, comprising one gold and one silver.

Silver and Bronze Success

While the gold medals were a highlight, several Indian boxers fought valiantly to secure silver medals. Meenakshi (48kg) narrowly missed out on gold, losing a close 3:2 decision to local favorite Nazym Kyzaibay.

The silver medalists also included Jugnoo (men’s 85kg), Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg), Hitesh Gulia (men’s 70kg), and Abhinash Jamwal (men’s 65kg). Each demonstrated immense skill and determination in their respective final bouts.

Adding to India’s medal tally were three bronze medalists: Sanju (women’s 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men’s 75kg), and Narender (men’s 90+kg). Their efforts contributed to the team’s overall strong performance.
