Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri’s new film, Dhadak 2, has had a challenging start at the box office, collecting just Rs 7.25 crore in its first two days and struggling against other releases.
Dhadak 2’s Early Box Office Struggle
The highly anticipated Dhadak 2, a production from Karan Johar’s banner, opened to a modest Rs 3.5 crore on its first day. Its second day saw a slight increase, bringing in Rs 3.75 crore, pushing the film’s total collection to Rs 7.25 crore.
This two-day total barely matches the opening day collection of its direct competitor, Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur’s Son of Sardaar 2, highlighting a tough box office battle for Dhadak 2.
Occupancy Trends on Day 2
On its second day, Dhadak 2 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 25.81%. The film saw a gradual increase in footfall throughout the day.
Morning shows started with 11.73% occupancy, which rose to 25.61% in the afternoon and 29.00% in the evening. The highest numbers were reported during the night shows, reaching 36.88% occupancy, indicating that audiences preferred later screenings.
Critical Reception for the Film
Film critics have weighed in on Dhadak 2. The Indian Express’s Shubhra Gupta awarded the film 2.5 stars, noting that the performances by Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi felt somewhat “performative” compared to previous strong showings.
However, Gupta also acknowledged the film’s effort to address important social issues. She highlighted its focus on themes such as casteism, classism, feminism, and gender identities, suggesting the film is “on the right side of many of the hot button issues.”
Competing in a Crowded Market
Dhadak 2 faces stiff competition from other successful releases. Saiyaara continues its impressive run, now in its third week, and is on track to cross the Rs 300 crore mark soon, showcasing its strong audience appeal.
Another film performing well is the animated mythological feature, Mahavtar Narasimha. It continues to draw audiences steadily in its second week, further adding to the crowded theatrical landscape.
