The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially confirmed that the Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

Asia Cup 2025: Dates and Venue Revealed

Cricket fans can mark their calendars! ACC President Mohsin Naqvi recently announced the much-anticipated dates for the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup. The prestigious continental tournament is set to run from September 9th to September 28th in the UAE.

Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), shared his excitement on social media, stating that a detailed schedule will be released soon. This confirmation brings clarity to one of cricket’s significant events.

Return to T20 Format

For the 2025 edition, the Asia Cup will revert to the Twenty20 (T20) format. This decision is timely, especially with the next T20 World Cup just around the corner, providing teams with crucial preparation time.

The previous Asia Cup, held in 2023, adopted the One-Day International (ODI) format, serving as a build-up to the 2023 Cricket World Cup. India emerged victorious in that tournament, defeating hosts Sri Lanka in a dominant final.

Eight Nations to Battle it Out

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the designated host, the tournament will be played in the neutral territory of the UAE. Eight strong teams are slated to compete for the title.

Cricket powerhouses India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be joined by Hong Kong, the UAE, and Oman. This diverse line-up promises exciting contests and fierce competition throughout the event.

Navigating Geopolitical Waters

The organization of major cricket events involving India and Pakistan has often been influenced by geopolitical considerations. The choice of a neutral venue for the Asia Cup 2025 is a continuation of this trend.

The 2023 Asia Cup, originally hosted by Pakistan, saw India playing its matches in Sri Lanka due to the BCCI’s stance on not traveling to Pakistan. A similar “hybrid model” was also implemented for the 2024 ICC Champions Trophy, where India played their games in Dubai.

Despite initial tensions and a brief threat by the BCCI to pull out of a recent ACC general body meeting in Dhaka, the schedule for the September event was successfully finalized. The participation of BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket chiefs via video conferencing helped pave the way for this agreement.

  • The Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
  • The tournament will be played in the T20 format.
  • Eight teams are confirmed to participate, including India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
  • The choice of a neutral venue reflects ongoing geopolitical considerations between India and Pakistan.

Fans eagerly await the detailed schedule as teams prepare to battle for continental supremacy in the UAE’s cricketing arenas.
