The all-electric Rimac Nevera R has shattered an incredible 24 new world records for acceleration and braking, solidifying its place as a hypercar leader.
A New Benchmark for Electric Hypercars
Croatia-headquartered hypercar brand Rimac Automobili recently announced that its extreme Nevera R has claimed a staggering two dozen new world records. These groundbreaking feats, covering everything from blistering acceleration to rapid braking, were achieved at the Automotive Testing Papenburg proving ground in Germany between July 5 and 8.
The Nevera R builds upon the success of the standard Rimac Nevera, which itself held 23 records. The new R variant managed to surpass all but one of those existing benchmarks, showcasing a relentless pursuit of performance.
Mate Rimac, the company’s founder and CEO, expressed the brand’s philosophy: “When we first introduced Nevera, it almost seemed like the pinnacle of hypercar performance had been reached… But now, through relentless innovation, Nevera R goes even faster. Breaking records is in our DNA, and we won’t stop here.”
Unpacking the Record-Breaking Performance
Among its most impressive achievements, the Nevera R accelerates from 0-100 kph in a breathtaking 1.72 seconds. This is a noticeable improvement over the standard Nevera’s already swift 1.81 seconds for the same sprint.
However, the real standout is its 0-400-0 kph acceleration-braking time. The Nevera R completed this intense test in a mind-blowing 25.79 seconds. This performance is a full 2.04 seconds quicker than the previous record holder, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, and a significant 4.14 seconds faster than the standard Nevera.
Speed Comparisons: EV vs. Combustion
The Nevera R’s top speed of 431 kph makes it the fastest production EV. However, it still falls slightly short of some specialized electric concepts like the Aspark Owl SP600 concept, which has reached 439 kph.
When compared to combustion-powered hypercars, the outright speed crown still belongs elsewhere. Vehicles like the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport maintain the top spot with a blistering 490 kph.
Powering the Nevera R
Both the Nevera R and the standard Nevera share a robust 120 kWh battery pack. Yet, the R variant pushes the boundaries further with a combined total output of 2,017 horsepower, an increase of 103 hp over the regular model.
This electric “hyper sports car” is equipped with advanced torque-vectoring technology, specifically tuned to maximize grip with its high-performance Michelin Cup 2 tyres. Additionally, an improved steering rack provides sharper responses and crisper feedback, enhancing the overall driving experience.
- The Rimac Nevera R set 24 new world records for acceleration and braking.
- It achieves 0-100 kph in a staggering 1.72 seconds.
- Its 0-400-0 kph time of 25.79 seconds is a new global benchmark.
- The Nevera R boasts 2,017 horsepower, a significant upgrade over the standard Nevera.
The Rimac Nevera R clearly demonstrates the relentless pace of innovation in the electric hypercar world, setting new standards for speed and performance.
